CORRECTIONS: In Volume V, Early Adventurers…pp. 152,155, the index has Drury Senten listed. It should be Drury Senter.
p. 304, Jacob Kettering was born February 12, 1774, not 1770.
Page 666, the surname Draper was accidentally omitted in the index. That name was indexed under Drake beginning with Cinthia Flora and including Silas at the end of the list.
Page 357, Michael Neff, the first to come to Wythe County, is buried on the land now owned by Charles Roberts.
Other corrections welcome.
NOTE: All Kegley books are limited editions, and some have sold out over the years. The ones still available, with a short description, may be found listed on my website:
Website: kegleybooks.com is the name for the new website.

(1) In the 1960s George B. Gose published Pioneers of the Virginia Bluegrass, a book with at least twenty-five major families of Southwest Virginia. These included Gose, Peery, Brown, Crute, Crabtree, Foglesong, Fox, Groseclose, Huddle, Jones, Catron, Legrand, Litz, Mahood, Michaux, Repass, Rhudy, Rosenbaum, Sluss, Spangler, Spraker, Thompson, Wilson, Woolwine and Yost. Kegley Books has reprinted the book with a new index, and additional information about the families of Gose, Spraker, Rosenbaum and Thompson. Many of the others appear in Volume 5 of Early Adventurers which covers the western part of Wythe County and vicinity. In addition, a bibliography of new books published recently has been added. This will be of help researchers looking for the families he wrote about. Ordering information is enclosed. Volume 5 is still available at present, although numbers have dwindled greatly since publication.
(2) The first two Wythe County marriage books prepared by Bev Hoch, Mary Kegley and Janie Dillon and printed recently have been an immediate success. The third in this series is now completed and was prepared by Janie Dillon and Mary B. Kegley. The records begin in 1867 where the last book left off and continues through 1880. The same sad story presented itself to us as we prepared the manuscript. There were wrong names, wrong dates, names missing from the index, and many misspelled names. Working from the actual marriage certificates and comparing with the book used in the Clerk’s Office brought these errors to light. Each one has been documented in footnotes. Marriages of Wythe County, Virginia 1867-1880.
(3) John M. Johnson has finished his book about the Freedmen’s Bureau Records of Wythe County 1866. These special documents were located in the basement of the courthouse several years ago. It is now one of the major resources for the study of slavery and black ancestors.
